Building Circular Economies with PRIDE Coop

In Guwahati, India, most of the city’s 1,500 waste workers operate in a kind of gig economy with poor conditions and pay, but local leaders are quickly transforming how communities can manage harmful waste and contribute to emerging circular economies.

Pyxera Global’s Cooperative for Solid Waste Management (CSWM) program with the PepsiCo Foundation launched last year has already connected more than 160 waste workers through a new worker-owned cooperative structure—Pragjyotishpur Recycling Initiative for Development and Environment (PRIDE) Cooperative Society Limited—ensuring they can lead and own the solutions that improve their lives, including access to medical care, skills training, and even a new recycling facility.

In addition to the lasting local economic value of better livelihoods and cleaner communities, PRIDE also advances Pyxera Global’s worldwide work in circularity and regeneration. It’s a powerful model for how local leadership and cross-sector collaboration can build resilient regional circular supply chains.

Together with our partners, we’re scaling these supply chain solutions everywhere to build a world where equitable and regenerative systems enable all communities to thrive.
