About This Role

The Private Sector Partnership Specialist will be a key player in the USAID inREPLACE project, Innovations for Reducing Plastics for a Cleaner Environment in India. This initiative aims to significantly reduce plastic pollution and its impact on marine environments by accelerating circularity and fostering innovations in plastic waste management across India. 

In this role, you will drive the formation and cultivation of private sector partnerships, focusing on innovation in plastic alternatives and circular economy solutions within the Indian context. Your efforts will be pivotal in creating a dynamic ecosystem that supports and scales sustainable practices in plastic waste management and packaging design. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Private Sector Engagement & Strategic Planning: Identify, establish, and maintain strategic partnerships with private sector companies and innovators to advance circularity and innovation in plastic waste management. Develop and implement engagement strategies that align with project goals, while continuously refining these strategies for maximum impact. 
  • Ecosystem Development & Start-up Support: Foster a supportive environment for innovators and start-ups to develop, test, finance, and market solutions in plastic waste management, alternatives, and sustainable packaging. Provide resources, mentorship, and funding opportunities to help scale these innovations. Align InREPLACE with broader initiatives to leverage resources effectively. 
  • Capacity Building, Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing: Enhance the capabilities of private sector partners in circular economy practices, sustainable packaging, and plastic waste management. Facilitate collaboration and knowledge exchange among partners to collectively drive innovation. 

Requirements

  • Industry Expertise: At least 10 years of experience in developing and managing private sector partnerships, with a strong focus on circular economy, sustainability, or innovation. In-depth knowledge of the Indian private sector landscape, particularly regarding plastic waste management and circular economy challenges. 
  • Financial Acumen: Proven experience in start-up financing and working with investors to structure and secure funding. 
  • Communication & Stakeholder Management: Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills. Adept at engaging with leaders and managing complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives. 
  • Preferred Experience & Education: Familiarity with USAID-funded projects or similar international development programs. A master’s degree in sustainability, environmental science, business, or a related discipline is preferred. 

 

We seek an individual with a strong commitment to sustainability, innovation, and driving positive change in the plastic waste management sector, with the willingness to travel extensively within India and occasionally internationally as required.
